Lotus launches new electric sports car concept car “Theory 1”: equipped with 3D printed headrests

Researchers use artificial intelligence to improve 3D printing defect detection

Recently, the famous British sports car manufacturer Lotus, a subsidiary of the Geely Group, launched a new electric sports car concept car called “Theory 1”. The car adheres to the lightweight design philosophy. The curb weight of the new car is only 1.6 tons, and it has a powerful power system of nearly 1,000 horsepower, with a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour.

This concept car is hailed as “the embodiment of the future of high-performance intelligent cars” and incorporates many cutting-edge design and technology highlights, including Lotus’ unique LOTUSWEAR driving system, robotic fabric technology developed in cooperation with MotorSkins and the use of Carbon Network Structure of3D printed headrest

The design of Theory 1 is inspired by the Lotus design manifesto – “Lotus Theory”, which consists of three fundamental concepts: digital, natural and analog (DNA). The Digital Principles reflect Lotus’ commitment to creating an “immersive, intelligent and intuitive user experience”; naturalization emphasizes the concept of human-centered design; and simulation represents the continued advancement of performance engineering. Under the guidance of these design concepts, Theory 1 puts the driver at the center, providing them with a new driving experience.
The LOTUSWEAR driving system equipped with Theory 1 integrates multiple innovative functions to create a new automotive experience for drivers and passengers. Among them, what deserves attention is the 3D printed headrest developed in cooperation with Carbon Company. This headrest offers tailored comfort to all passengers. Its unique mesh structure not only improves comfort, but also reduces the weight of interior components, optimizes material usage efficiency and significantly improves aerodynamic performance.

Additionally, this 3D printed headrest also features a built-in binaural sound system to provide each passenger with a personalized sound experience. Lotus explained that the design of the car’s soundscape can enhance driving pleasure, improve concentration while driving, or optimize the overall sound experience to provide a more immersive audio experience.

In addition to these core technologies, the Theory 1 concept car is also equipped with a series of advanced features, including a 360-degree autonomous driving sensor suite, an aerodynamic body design and an intelligent lighting system incorporating LED and laser light technology. and a seat adjustment system based on soft robotic fabric that provides real-time tactile feedback and automatically adjusts to increase driver support. This concept car presents the design and functionality vision of future cars from high-performance automakers such as Lotus.
