On December 27, the 7th China (Chengdu) International 3D Printing Conference opened at a factory in Chengdu Aviation Industrial Park, Sichuan. 156 companies and institutions from various industries across the country came together. Taking advantage of the opening ceremony of the conference, Lu Bingheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and known as the “Father of 3D printing in China”, agreed to an interview with reporters.
Reporter: What stage is 3D printing technology currently at? What are the development trends in the coming years?
Lu Bingheng:China’s market share of 3D printing technology equipment accounts for 17% of the global market, second only to the United States. After more than 20 years of development, 3D printing has become widely applied in China.
3D printing has a wide range of application scenarios in China and can be used in many fields such as aviation, aerospace, automobile, medical care and even construction, culture and creativity . Particularly in flexible manufacturing, it can facilitate industry iteration and creativity. upgrade. At present, Chinese 3D printing technology is successfully used in the automobile and medical fields. In 2024, the production value of 3D printing will increase by 24%. Over the next few years, it will certainly exceed this growth rate.
It can be imagined that 3D printing technology will be widely used in the manufacturing of large domestic aircraft in the future. At the same time, 3D printing will be deeply integrated with “double carbon” and artificial intelligence. Currently, hydrogen energy storage bottles use 3D printing, and there will be more room for innovation and improvement in future designs.
Reporter: What support is currently needed for 3D printing?
Lu Bingheng:Currently, 3D printing is on the verge of an industrial explosion and all parties must work together to welcome the new industrial era. Of the many external supports, the biggest demand is funding. This time, in the “1+6” forum of the conference, a sub-forum “3D printing + financing” was designed, hoping to obtain strong support from government and financial ministries. and investment institutions. We believe that it will not take long for the 3D printing industry to reach a scale of 100 billion.
Reporter: Why was the conference moved to Chengdu?
Lu Bingheng:Sichuan plays an important role in the field of high-end equipment manufacturing and is the country’s strategic hinterland. Therefore, it is inevitable that the International 3D Printing Conference will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Bilateral complementarity and mutual needs constitute the context and reason why this conference is being held here.
The slogan of this conference is “3D printing enters the industrial park“. Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, AVIC Sichuan Gas Turbine Research Institute, AVIC Chengfa, etc. are all located in Xindu Aviation Industrial Park, which fits this theme very well. The nose of the domestic C919 large aircraft is manufactured here. Those -these are important for 3D printing technology In addition, Chengdu also has a general “single-core, single-core, multi-point” aviation layout and industrial space. “3D printing + aviation” such as Qingyang, Shuangliu, high-tech zone and New East District and Jintang Very large.
Before the meeting we toured the park, and the infrastructure, park equipment and businesses all left a very good impression on me. In the coming days, we will continue to bring participating companies to gain an in-depth understanding and explore the integration of 3D printing technology in the manufacturing of large aircraft parts and complete aircraft.
